New years day Gathering

January 1st 2014 abd our “New Years Day Gathering”at Rogate have not used this hall for a few years,  a nice hall easy to find in the middle of Rogate.
We were a bit concerned over the weather rain, wind and floods etc but just after we arrived  Pete & Fiona,Joan & Mike and Barry & Judyturned upso we all set about setting up the hall.We set up tables and chairs for thirty two,by about twenty to two only about twenty(including us eight) which worked out about two raffle prizes per person! We put off starting of the food until two thirty to give people a bit more time due to the weather.By two thirty the numbers were up tothirty seven plus a lot more raffle prizes.
There was a very good selection of food, quizzes were given out,the food and quizzes were just about finished when the power went off!!!there was good emergency lighting,I decided we would finish and clear up early incase there were problems on the roads home.We had enough hot water to wash up,I had rung the caretaker and he said don’t worry if you leave anything on as he would come and check when the power came back on.
So I read out the Quiz answers with the aid of Martin and his torch,Fiona finished the never ending raffle.
We had plenty of help clearing up and it was soon all finished.
I would like to thank all the helpers in the kitchen, all who helped set up and clear up at the end, also all the Club members who braved the weather to attend,I know many travelled long distances to get there- again thanks to you all.
It made my day to see so many turn up, at one time I wondered if it was going to be worth doing….

We have been invited to go to the Rural Life Centre at Tilford, Surrey. The date is 17th & 18th May, this was the only date available as they have a very busy calendar and perhaps it will be a drier weekend!!

This is a club only event to test the layout. All exhibitors are invited, awning displays are being allowed to camp in the museum while other campers will be in the grass area the other side of the railway.

There is alot to see at the museum and a cafe onsite. There is also a large garden centre down the road only five minutes walk away stocking fresh milk, fruit, meat and veg.

Drive it Day Sunday April 27th

This year our club has no offical event but we thought that we need to do something!!

So we are going to have an informal gathering at a garden centre near Brighton, the address is The South Downs Nurseries which is on Brighton Road A273 Hassocks West Sussex BN6 9LY.

We will meet there between 12.30pm and 1pm.

The garden centre also has a small museum called The South Downs Heritage Centre and houses bygones from rural life in Sussex.

There is also a coffe shop which offer home cooked lunches, snacks and tea & coffee. Please note that food will not be pre arranged so you will have to sort yourselves out in the coffee shop..

This is just a gathering for us as a club to get together and dust off our vehicles and catch up with friends over a coffee or lunch. They is something for everyone at this garden centre, flowers and gifts for the ladies, a museum for the gents to look around and a coffee for all.

We hope to see many of you there, if you would like more information call Pete Brewer on 01243 574032

“LL” mentioned in FBHVC News

Just recieved my copy of the FBHVC and in the notes in the back was this…

The Double LL Club newsletter reminds us of the Healey Marine products of the Donald Healey Motor Company. Out of the 1400 or so that were produced, do any survive? Now, by a remarkable coincidence, there is an example advertised for sale in the Lakeland Historic Car Club Newsletter for December – offers in the region of £6,000 are sought.
