January 1st 2014 abd our “New Years Day Gathering”at Rogate have not used this hall for a few years, a nice hall easy to find in the middle of Rogate.
We were a bit concerned over the weather rain, wind and floods etc but just after we arrived Pete & Fiona,Joan & Mike and Barry & Judyturned upso we all set about setting up the hall.We set up tables and chairs for thirty two,by about twenty to two only about twenty(including us eight) which worked out about two raffle prizes per person!We put off starting of the food until two thirty to give people a bit more time due to the weather.By two thirty the numbers were up tothirty seven plus a lot more raffle prizes.
There was a very good selection of food, quizzes were given out,the food and quizzes were just about finished when the power went off!!!there was good emergency lighting,I decided we would finish and clear up early incase there were problems on the roads home.We had enough hot water to wash up,I had rung the caretaker and he said don’t worry if you leave anything on as he would come and check when the power came back on.
So I read out the Quiz answers with the aid of Martin and his torch,Fiona finished the never ending raffle.
We had plenty of help clearing up and it was soon all finished.
I would like to thank all the helpers in the kitchen,all who helped set up and clear up at the end, also all the Club members who braved the weather to attend,I know many travelled long distances to get there- again thanks to you all.
It made my day to see so many turn up, at one time I wondered if it was going to be worth doing….
